C is indeed a very robust “dual role” connector, i.e. it can work either as
INPUT or OUTPUT, it’s reversable and so far it can be plugged whatsoever
upside-down, it can well implement all specs relevant to USB-2.0/3.0/3.1, it
can implement USB PD-Power Delivery specs and within them e.g. proprietary
Qualcomm QC-Quick Charge specs according to which it’s possible to
automatically “negotiate” precise exchange electrical parameters between the
“primary power charger” and the “device to be charged” … that allowing e.g.
some transfer power improvements with values such as 5V/3A – 9V/2A – 12V/1.5A …

fondamentali di cui tener conto nella scelta di un Power Pack. Seguono a ruota
numero/tipologia di porte in ingresso e uscita, implementazione della funzione
pass-through, dimensioni, peso, costo, ecc..</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span face=""verdana" , sans-serif" style="color: #444444;">A mio avviso un ingresso,
possibilmente USB-Type C, e un paio di uscite sono più che sufficienti.<br />Il
pass-through serve e non serve, anzi secondo me non serve a niente.<br />Per
quanto riguarda la velocità di ricarica, fattore decisamente determinante
nell’utilizzo di un Power Pack durante un viaggio in bici, alla luce
dell’emergente interfaccia USB-Type C che consente cospicui trasferimenti di
potenza nelle due direzioni (input-output), sia <b>ANKER</b> che <b>RAV</b> offrono oggi nuovi
Power Pack con capacità e tempi di ricarica di tutto rispetto.<br />Non conosco il
Voltaic, conosco invece piuttosto bene il Powergorilla che oltre ad essere
caricato da rete può benissimo essere interfacciato ad un pannello solare con
uscita da 15 a 20V (circa).<br />A tal proposito interessante la sua funzione
MPPT-<i>Maximum Power Point Technology</i> che gli consente di “inseguire”
elettronicamente e così ottimizzare la potenza fornita dal pannello in ciascun
momento.<br />A parte il Powergorilla che uso ormai da tempo, voglio sottolineare
che buona parte di ciò che ho scritto è basato su istruzioni e relativi
data-sheet spesso poco chiari, confusi e per di più in continua evoluzione.
<br />Tra le cose poco chiare una delle più antipatiche riguarda il così detto
“carico minimo” ovvero quel minimo di mA che un dispositivo deve assorbire
affichè la porta USB del Power Pack rimanga attiva.<br />Per l’ANKER p.e. da
qualche parte c’è scritto “not compatible with devices with an input below
50mA”. Ciò significa che se usate il Power Pack per alimentare p.e. un GPS
che consuma meno di 50 mA, il Power Pack ad un certo punto, “pensando”
erroneamente che il GPS è scollegato, si spegnerà !!!<br /><br />Nella tabella
qui sotto, per avere apparecchiature simili da confrontare, ho preso
esclusivamente in esame Power Pack da 20000 mAh in su. Nulla vieta tuttavia di
orientarsi su taglie più piccole.</span></div>

significato della sigla “PD” che comincia ad apparire sempre più spesso a fianco
del nome del Power Pack medesimo.<br />“PD” sta per Power Delivery che è un nuovo
standard USB che stabilisce il minimo di potenza che l’interfaccia USB deve
essere in grado di gestire; nei sistemi citati sopra se non sbaglio vale 30W ma
il vero Power Delivery può arrivare a 100W!!<br /><br />**va precisato che USB-Type
C non è un nuovo tipo di USB, la “C” si riferisce esclusivamente al connettore;
è senz’altro più robusto degli altri, è reversibile ovvero lo potete inserire

Tempo fa avevo fatto una stima in base alla quale durante il “travaso” sembrava che se ne dovesse andar via il 30% circa. In effetti sembrava allora una previsione pessimistica; mi sono allora deciso a fare delle misure concrete (e piuttosto accurate) e ho visto che nel “trasferimento” si perde per strada la metà circa dei mAh di partenza … altrochè il 30% !!! Tradotto in pratica con un caricatore da 20000 mAh non potrete caricare più di cinque volte una batteria da 2000 mAh come qualcuno potrebbe pensare !!!
Per fare le prove ho collegato l’uscita USB-5V del mio PowerPack da 21.000mAh equivalente a 77,7 Wh su una resistenza da 10 Ohm e per tre volte consecutive ho notato che il processo si è fermato a meno di 40 Wh … cioè circa la metà dell’energia di partenza !!!
Ora, per la cronaca, vorrei ricordare che per fare 40 Wh con una dinamo al mozzo basta pedalare 13 ore !!</span><br />

mantenuto in rotazione dalla ruota tramite i raggi nella cui parte interna e
dunque ad esso solidale, vi è il circuito magnetizzante costituito da magneti
permanenti. All'interno del corpo cilindrico, fisso sul mozzo e quindi statico rispetto alla
ruota, vi è l'avvolgimento d'indotto, in corrente alternata, dal quale tramite i due morsetti d'uscita sarà
generalmente possibile prelevare una potenza di 3W alla tensione di 6V a
20km/h.</span></div>

effetti il mozzo della ruota anteriore ed è attualmente il sistema più razionale
ed efficiente per produrre energia elettrica mentre si pedala.</span><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Spesso si
obietta che da una dinamo al mozzo ne derivi una certa resistenza alla pedalata,
difficile tuttavia da quantizzare. In effetti un minimo di resistenza "aggiunta"
è inevitabile anche se, soprattutto a bici carica, questa sarà
impercettibile.</span></div>

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Comunque, solo per fare un esempio, da dati ufficiali SON,
una dinamo SON28 richiede una potenza meccanica in ingresso pari a 5.2W per
generare 3.38W in uscita, alla velocità di 20 km/h con luci accese su una ruota
700c/28”.</span></div>

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Per semplificare, per fare 3W ci si dovranno "buttare" dentro 5W
circa.</span></div>

bici) di 5 mm in un secondo, quindi supponendo che si stia andando alla velocità
di 20 km/h, in un secondo si saranno percorsi in orizzontale 5.56m. Ne risulta
che per produrre 5W sarà come pedalare lungo una salita con pendenza allo 0.09%
… in pratica sarà come andare in pianura !!!</span></div>

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">La tensione d’uscita a vuoto, ovvero senza alcun carico collegato, sarà circa 20V a 20 km/h e, esattamente come la frequenza, crescerà linearmente con la velocità.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">E’ bene inoltre sottolineare che i 3W a 20 km/h su una resistenza da 12 Ohm sono puramente nominali, una dinamo da 3W a 20 km/h potrà infatti facilmente arrivare a 6W se collegata per esempio ad una resistenza da 40 Ohm invece che 12 Ohm.</span><br />
<span style="color: red; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><b><span style="color: #444444;">Quindi la “</span><span style="color: red;">potenza effettivamente disponibile</span><span style="color: #444444;">” su una dinamo marcata 6V-3W a 20 km/h sarà il doppio o quasi della potenza indicata in etichetta.</span></b></span><br />

di prezzo sono in effetti difficili da apprezzare.</span><br />

così detto “attrito aggiunto” direi impercettibili, se si vogliono trovare
delle differenze bisogna andarle a vedere un po’ più da vicino e guardare
l’isolamento delle parti elettriche, i cuscinetti con associata tenuta
meccanica, gli eventuali sistemi anticondensa, la buona progettazione ed esecuzione che
dovrà limitare quanto più possibile le inevitabili vibrazioni indotte.</span><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Le dinamo al mozzo sono comunemente viste e fatte passare come tipici generatori di corrente.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Ciò però è solo "parzialmente" vero in quanto ciò dipenderà dall'entità e dalla tipologia del carico applicato, ovvero troverà un qualche riscontro in tal senso </span><span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">fintanto che il carico dovesse rimanere fondamentalmente di tipo resistivo e di bassi valori se confrontato con la componente induttiva dell'impedenza interna del generatore stesso.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Infatti nella suddetta condizione prevarrebbe la reattanza del generatore così che al variare della sua velocità, varierà è vero la tensione ma anche la frequenza, con conseguente stabilizzazione della corrente.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Una attenta analisi della tabella riportata qui sotto potrà essere d'aiuto per meglio comprendere e provare il comportamento descritto. </span><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Dunque capacità (mAh/Wh) e tempo di ricarica sembrerebbero essere i due criteri
fondamentali di cui tener conto nella scelta di un Power Pack. Seguono a ruota
numero/tipologia di porte in ingresso e uscita, implementazione della funzione
pass-through, dimensioni, peso, costo, ecc..<br />A mio avviso un ingresso,
possibilmente USB-Type C, e un paio di uscite sono più che sufficienti.<br />Il
pass-through serve e non serve, anzi secondo me non serve a niente.<br />Per
quanto riguarda la velocità di ricarica, fattore decisamente determinante
nell’utilizzo di un Power Pack durante un viaggio in bici, alla luce
dell’emergente interfaccia USB-Type C che consente cospicui trasferimenti di
potenza nelle due direzioni (input-output), sia <b>ANKER</b> che <b>RAV</b> offrono oggi nuovi
Power Pack con capacità e tempi di ricarica di tutto rispetto.<br />Non conosco il
Voltaic, conosco invece piuttosto bene il Powergorilla che oltre ad essere
caricato da rete può benissimo essere interfacciato ad un pannello solare con
uscita da 15 a 20V (circa).<br />A tal proposito interessante la sua funzione
MPPT-<i>Maximum Power Point Technology</i> che gli consente di “inseguire”
elettronicamente e così ottimizzare la potenza fornita dal pannello in ciascun
momento.<br />A parte il Powergorilla che uso ormai da tempo, voglio sottolineare
che buona parte di ciò che ho scritto è basato su istruzioni e relativi
data-sheet spesso poco chiari, confusi e per di più in continua evoluzione.
<br />Tra le cose poco chiare una delle più antipatiche riguarda il così detto
“carico minimo” ovvero quel minimo di mA che un dispositivo deve assorbire
affichè la porta USB del Power Pack rimanga attiva.<br />Per l’ANKER p.e. da
qualche parte c’è scritto “not compatible with devices with an input below
50mA”. Ciò significa che se usate il Power Pack per alimentare p.e. un GPS
che consuma meno di 50 mA, il Power Pack ad un certo punto, “pensando”
erroneamente che il GPS è scollegato, si spegnerà !!!<br /><br />Nella tabella
qui sotto, per avere apparecchiature simili da confrontare, ho preso
esclusivamente in esame Power Pack da 20000 mAh in su. Nulla vieta tuttavia di
orientarsi su taglie più piccole.</span></div>

significato della sigla “PD” che comincia ad apparire sempre più spesso a fianco

standard USB che stabilisce il minimo di potenza che l’interfaccia USB deve
essere in grado di gestire; nei sistemi citati sopra se non sbaglio vale 30W ma
il vero Power Delivery può arrivare a 100W!!<br /><br />**va precisato che USB-Type
C non è un nuovo tipo di USB, la “C” si riferisce esclusivamente al connettore;
è senz’altro più robusto degli altri, è reversibile ovvero lo potete inserire
indipendentemente da come è orientato, è “dual role” ovvero può funzionare sia
come input che come output. Per quanto riguarda tutto il resto può "accogliere"
le specifiche di USB-2.0/3.0/3.1 ecc. ecc.</span></div>

The disk of an old disc brake, an hub, a few magnets and some junked relay coils.
The result is what you can see in the video here below. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Accurately dimensioned and then electrically, magnetically and mechanically calibrated, this strange artefact seems to be able to produce the so-called <b>"PERFECT WATT”</b> .... nothing more than a kilo weight dropping by a meter height in ten seconds taking into rotation the "generator" thus producing exactly that <b>"ONEWATT"</b> used to light-on a few leds!</span><br />

I mean, will be capable to give you more than above stated powers if set
at voltage levels above 4.9V … BUT the immediate above step of 5.6V if
intended to be used with a standard 5V-USB load is a bit too much
and so far unsafe !!</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Another consideration is the
following: some AC/DC converters, like the Luxos-U, once loaded with an
excessive load, generally say above 500mA, will exhibit a sort of LLV-Low
Level Voltage shutdown that for the mentioned Luxos-U is 4.75V approx, in
other words below 4.75V it simply powers-off !!</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, 2.5W are generally more
than enough to power a normal gps. Indeed power required by very popular
gps devices can span between 0.35W required by a Garmin 60CSx at 0%
backlight to a very demanding 2.6W (sometimes even more!!) of a Garmin
Montana 600 at 100% back illumination. In other words be careful because
power requirements of a gps commonly increases exponentially above 60%
back illumination !!!</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Let’s come to dynamo: a very
standard dynohub marked 6V3W is normally capable to deliver almost 6W at
20km/h whether coupled with its “perfect matching” load. The rating of
6V3W is referred to a resistive load of 12 Ohm, but if you couple it with
30-40 Ohm you’ll easily get almost 6W.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Now let see the matching dynamo-converter
issue: when you couple a dynohub to an AC/DC converter like an e-werk, it
will be this latter one to determine the usable “transferred power”.
That’s why some AC/DC converters will be capable to deliver only 2.7W and
some other ones will possibly arrive to the double. It’s a pure matter of
internal electronics design, a design specifically conceived to optimize
dynamo frequencies (20-70 Hz), voltage levels, capacitors charging/discharging,
mutual impedance coupling … etc. etc.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">NOW, about the story of running lights in conjunction with an USB-werk:</span><br />

critical issue to try to give an answer to. To try to give an answer
though, I do prefer avoiding extravagant theories and rather totally rely

What is most important is indeed the effective power that a certain AC/DC converter can draw from the AC side (generator) of a system and deliver to the DC side (load) at a certain speed.
To make it clear once again: “<i>if one device gets an input of 3.0 W at 20 km/h and has an efficiency of 80% and the other device gets a input of 3.5 W at 20 km/h and has an efficiency of 75%, than the second device is the better choice in spite of its lower efficiency</i>”. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">To make evaluations on how good an AC/DC converter is, I personally do not even need very sophisticated laboratory instruments since I make all relevant measurements directly on DC side.
To do that I use a real generator, a real AC/DC converter (the one under test) and an adjustable ohmic load made-up of calibrated ceramic resistors. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Some people make use of very expansive electronic loads, but that's a different story ... </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In my case the wheel/generator speed is controlled and finely tuned via an asynchronous motor powered by a 3-phase inverter. At this point the test method is extremely simple: I adjust (<i>sink</i>) the load till to get the maximum transferred DC power to the load taking care of course that the voltage doesn’t go below a certain “low limit”.
For instance for usb 5V voltage I’d set this limit to 4.75V.
The results seem to be pretty reliable so far.
The basic estimate criteria would be that an AC/DC converter is as better as bigger is the amount of ACTIVE POWER that it will let to flow from the generator to the load.
The test system I use is <a href="http://by-conrad.blogspot.it/p/cycleex-exp.html"><b>THIS ONE</b></a>, home made but pretty well performing.
Here below a couple of sample plots based on a Shimano DH-3D32-QR hub dynamo and an e-werk respectively set at 4.9V (1st plot) and 5.6V (2nd plot).
As you can see the e-werk at 20 km/h doesn’t seem to be able to transfer more that 2.75W. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The third plot, worked-out by an indipendent lab, <a href="http://fahrradzukunft.de/">http://fahrradzukunft.de/</a>, well confirms above data. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">But what's most important, is that it shows that at 20 km/h some alternative devices, such as <i>Forumslader-V5</i> or <i>Dynamo Harvester Plus</i>, can definitely do much better arriving to deliver more than 5 W !!
